May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Month increases awareness of mental illness and its impact on the physical, emotional, and mental well- being of children, families, and communities. Mental Health Month was established in 1949 to increase the awareness of mental health and wellness in Americans’ lives, and to celebrate recovery. Good, positive mental health is essential for a person’s overall well-being.

Each year millions of Americans live with a mental illness but it’s important to remember that you are not alone. Each year mental health advocates fight stigma, provide support, educate the public, and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families. We also salute all the health care workers out there who are on the front lines every day. Thank you for all that you do. Mental Health Help:
Behavioral health – which includes mental health, substance use, and more – is a key part of your overall well- being. The COVID-19 pandemic has left many people feeling anxious or depressed. The Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) offers a free and anonymous assessment to help you determine if you or someone you care about should connect with a behavioral health professional. https://screening.mentalhealthscreening.org/DWIHN

Another excellent digital tool is myStrength, an app with web and mobile tools designed to support your goals and wellbeing. myStengths’s highly interactive, individually-tailored resources allow users to address depression, anxiety, stress, substance use, chronic pain, and sleep challenges, while also supporting the physical and spiritual aspects of a person’s health.
